Our partner - SWITCH-GARMENT

Switch Garment, a project funded by the European Union SWITCH-Asia Grants Programme and jointly implemented by Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Textile, Apparel, Footwear & Travel Goods Association in Cambodia (TAFTAC) and Geres aims at ‘Promotion of sustainable energy practices in the garment sector in Cambodia’ (“Switch Garment”). The objective of the four-year project (2020-2024) is to increase the competitiveness and decrease the environmental impact of the Cambodian garment industry through sustainable production through the adoption of sustainable energy practices and facilitating investments in clean energy technologies. The project works on multiple fronts as shown below:

By joining the project, the member factories would receive benefits such as: factory energy assessments, project development mentoring, expert training and engagement support.

To date, the project has conducted 50 energy audits, the most ever been conducted within a single project in Cambodia. Based on the energy audit results, we have walked our member factories through their energy consumption profile and measures to increase energy saving. As a result, the project has secured almost 2 million USD investment made by the member factories.

At the project mid-term event in March 2023, H.E. Say Samal, Minister of Environment, said, “Improving energy efficiency in the garment industry is in line with the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitments to address climate change and environment problems, as enshrined in the overall policies, plans and strategies, especially the Long-Term Strategies for Carbon Neutrality by 2050. Acknowledging the significance of the garment industries in Cambodia, the Ministry of Environment highly appreciates the project, which was well designed to support the garment manufacturers to implement sustainable energy practices, thus contributing to environmental protection as well as to greening the country’s industrial process at large.”
